Chemistry is no longer accepting new applications.

Apply using the Applicant Portal

The Apply Now button on the right will take you to the Applicant Portal, where you can create and submit your application and supporting documents, and request references.

An application is only complete when:

  1. you have submitted your application and supporting documents via the Applicant Portal
  2. you have paid the £65 application fee
  3. your referees have provided their references.

If you miss the deadlines specified in this section, you will not be able to submit your application.

Selection Process

Due to the large volume of applications that the Department of Chemistry receive we encourage applicants to apply as soon as possible.  All applicants eligible for the funding competition will be considered in a gathered field, however, some groups like to get started with interviews before this deadline to spread the workload, so we strongly advise applicants to submit their applications as early as possible to maximize their chance for an interview.

Please note that incomplete applications (those missing one or both academic references) will be seriously disadvantaged. Applicants should ensure that academic referees submit references BEFORE the funding deadline.

The Department will be conducting interviews by a panel of at least two academic members of staff on several key dates to identify the top-ranked applicants to go forward to the University funding competition. Most of these interviews will take place in January, but some groups may schedule earlier interviews. Successful applicants will be made offers and entered for the funding competition by mid-February. Unsuccessful applicants will be notified as soon as possible.

Applications submitted after the University funding deadline will be considered on a rolling basis, and these applicants should expect to hear whether they have been successful within six weeks of their completed application having been received.
