Mathematical Statistics is no longer accepting new applications.

Apply using the Applicant Portal

The Apply Now button on the right will take you to the Applicant Portal, where you can create and submit your application and supporting documents, and request references.

An application is only complete when:

  1. you have submitted your application and supporting documents via the Applicant Portal
  2. you have paid the £65 application fee
  3. your referees have provided their references.

If you miss the deadlines specified in this section, you will not be able to submit your application.

The deadline for applications, including all supporting documents and references is 12:00 pm (midday) UK time on Friday 14 February 2020.  If you wish to be considered for funding as part of the University Graduate Funding Competition, please ensure that you apply by the relevant (earlier) deadline.

For admissions purposes only the MASt is divided into three pathways:

  • MASt in Applied Mathematics (Course code: MASA)
  • MASt in Pure Mathematics (Course code: MASP)
  • MASt in Mathematical Statistics (Course code: MASS)

Applicants should apply to the pathway that best fits their academic background and interests. Applicants who feel that their application might suit more than one pathway are encouraged to apply under a single course code only, and to detail the breadth of their mathematical interests on the application form.

The University values diversity and is committed to equality of opportunity. Both Departments particularly welcome applications from women since women are, and have historically been, underrepresented in our student cohorts.

The Department wishes to draw the attention of female applications to the MASt to the following opportunities:

Sheila Edmonds Bursaries

Newnham College in collaboration with the Department of Pure Mathematics and Mathematical Statistics (DPMMS) offers up to three Sheila Edmonds Bursaries for women taking Part III in DPMMS. Female applicants who wish to be considered for a Sheila Edmonds Bursary should give Newnham college as their first choice of College on their online application and should apply for the MASt in Pure Mathematics (MASP) or the MASt in Mathematical Statistics (MASS) by 12:00 pm (midday) UK time on Tuesday 7 January 2020. They should also email and to inform both the Department and the College of their interest in the bursary.

Selection Process

Applications are under review between November and March.  Some decisions are made straight away.  Other applications are held until later in the admissions cycle so that they can be reviewed alongside other applications to the course.  Many decisions are made after the closing date for applications. We aim to have notified all applicants of the admissions decision by the end of April.
