Postgraduate Study

I am writing to you with the latest information about your prospective course and about the measures we are taking to ensure Cambridge is as safe as possible, with your health being our top priority.

Teaching next academic year

In preparation for teaching next academic year, we have reviewed all our courses. Teaching will be delivered by a blend of in-person and online provision, with many lectures being delivered on-line. Where possible teaching by seminars, practicals and supervisions will be delivered in person, and it may be possible for lectures for smaller groups to be given on this basis. In the light of COVID-19 and government guidance, we have made changes to some of our courses to ensure that they deliver the best possible education in the circumstances. These changes are detailed here

If you have questions or concerns about the changes to your prospective course, if there are any, please contact your Faculty or Department, or, if you are a prospective Doctoral Research Student, your supervisor.

Staying safe in Cambridge

We will all need to work together as a community next year to keep ourselves and others as safe as possible while making the most of life at Cambridge. We will be launching an ambitious and comprehensive health information programme, because we want everyone to understand what to expect when they start at Cambridge, and how they can help to protect the whole Cambridge community.

The University and Colleges are promoting a range of measures designed to do this, including:

  • Keeping you up to date on the latest guidance and how it applies to life at Cambridge
  • Providing a COVID-19 test to anyone with symptoms
  • Supporting new ways of working, learning and socialising
  • Continuing to implement robust safety measures when resuming teaching, learning and research in College and University buildings, including enhanced cleaning
  • Providing assistance to people who are isolating or who need additional support with Covid-19 related issues

This is how we will ask you to help reduce the spread of COVID-19:

  • Keep a safe distance from others
  • Wear a face covering where required to do so or when it would be a courtesy to others, as outlined on the University and Colleges joint statement
  • Clean your hands regularly
  • Follow the rules of each building you enter
  • Follow the latest guidance on gathering in social groups
  • If you have any COVID-19 symptoms get a test immediately and self-isolate until you have a result
  • If you test positive for COVID-19 you will need to self-isolate and take part in contact tracing as required by Government guidance.

Further information

The Colleges and the University are working closely together to help all our students find accommodation, either within College or privately. Over the course of the summer and as you arrive you will receive more information about life in Cambridge. You can find out more on our dedicated webpage, and from your College. We understand that you may have concerns relating to your own circumstances. If you have concerns about travel arrangements, or about increased susceptibility to infectious diseases, or disabilities impacted by COVID-19, please refer to our advice on exceptional circumstances and our support for students with increased susceptibility to infectious diseases or with disabilities pages.

If you do meet the conditions of your offer, or have already met them, then we are all looking forward to welcoming you to Cambridge soon.
With very best wishes,

Professor Graham Virgo

Senior Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Education)
