Graduate Admissions

Apply using the Applicant Portal

The Apply Now button on the right will take you to the Applicant Portal, where you can create and submit your application and supporting documents, and request references.

An application is only complete when:

  1. you have submitted your application and supporting documents via the Applicant Portal
  2. you have paid the £65 application fee
  3. your referees have provided their references.

If you miss the deadlines specified in this section, you will not be able to submit your application.

Prior to application, all applicants should read the Department's research group pages, and find the group closest to their interests. They should also ensure that they include a short research proposal in the Research section of the application, giving enough detail to identify the appropriate research group. Applications which do not include any indication of research interests will not be considered.

It is highly recommended that applicants both give the name the supervisor with whom they wish to work on the application form, and contact this supervisor in advance of application. Not all of our supervisors are able to accommodate MPhil projects, and so applying without contacting the potential supervisor may lead to disappointment. Please note that successful applicants may still be allocated to a different supervisor.

Selection Process

Applications are considered on a rolling basis (as they are received), and it is possible that all places will be filled before the advertised deadline. If this occurs, the course entry in the online prospectus will be labelled as "closed". Note that all places in the desired research group or division may be filled before this occurs.
