Postgraduate Study

Coming from a background in medicine, I aimed to use the MBE to develop my understanding of the commercial side of healthcare. I received this understanding and so much more, learning about the wider interaction between science and entrepreneurship delivered through engaging and highly tailored course modules. The quality of teaching was excellent with a good deal of lectures delivered by alumni speakers which speaks to the quality of the course for future careers in the industry.

However the clear highlight of the MBE, was the opportunity to meet a class of inspiring, dedicated peers (now dear friends) who share a common interest in science and business. Thank you to all who made up the class, and all those who worked to make this year possible.

It’s never too late to go back to school. After a career in finance I embarked on the MBE with some trepidation, but this was short lived. The structure of the course based around constant assessment, complemented by a diverse cohort bringing a multiplicity of skill sets, made for a stimulating and challenging learning enviroment. The support from the Academics, administrators and lecturers, particularly given the challenges of remote learning, was excellent and I leave with a well developed knowledge of the intersection of science and finance. To be highly recommended to anyone from a science background seeking to expand their commercial horizons, or from a finance background applying their knowledge to the commercialisation of emerging science and innovation.

The MBE covers biotechnology in all its glory, from drug discovery and development, to medical devices as well as agro-biotechnology. This is done in-depth both in science and business. The MBE gives you perspectives all the way from large pharma to small biotech start-up, as well as regulators and academia. As a result, the course offers the set of skills needed to be versatile, adaptable and knowledgeable in the industry. From a chemical engineering background, with a focus in pharmaceutical manufacturing and a desire to enter the biotech sector in its broadest sense, the MBE was the ideal springboard to launch my career in the biotech industry as co-founder of Desktop Genetics.
