Postgraduate Study

Course closed:

Polar Studies (Scott Polar Research Institute) is no longer accepting new applications.

Being part of the SPRI research community, one of the most tightly-knit I know of in Cambridge, has allowed me to be supervised by and to interact with global leaders in their field to help me become a successful researcher, acting as an ideal springboard for my future career.

Andrew Williamson (April 2018)

SPRI's a great place to work and study - there are plenty of things going on, both academic and social - and there's a real sense of community and history. For the PhD itself, you benefit from excellent and accessible supervisors and 100 years of Polar expertise, meaning you can conduct some really impactful research.

Samuel Cook (April 2018)

Studying for my PhD at SPRI is an excellent experience, both from the perspective of my academic studies, and socially. The Institute is a hub for polar social science and humanities research, hosting inter-departmental and inter-disciplinary seminars and lectures from leading UK and international scholars. This broad exposure to other subjects in the field is matched with assistance for my own research. My supervisor has been very supportive, and his interest in my work enables valuable discussion and advice, whilst a helpful network of other PhD and MPhil students makes the sometimes-solitary enterprise of post-graduate study into a great communal environment. Above all else, the flexibility to study topics that interest me, both here in SPRI and away on fieldwork, has been a fantastic opportunity.

Henry Anderson-Elliott (April 2018)
