The MPhil in Geography offers a distinctive opportunity to conduct thorough and original research under the guidance of a supervisor before the PhD level. The course’s bespoke nature provides exciting room for creativity, originality and openness in your research. Given that I learn best through conversations and the discussion of ideas, the chance to learn from my supervisor, as well as engage in frequent one-on-one discussions with other department members and the broader Cambridge community, proved to be invaluable in terms of expanding my skills and knowledge. Whilst each member of the course pursued independent and distinctive research, we were an incredibly tight knit cohort and spent significant time supporting and learning from one another. Through this course, I have made lasting connections and friendships that extend beyond my MPhil year and time at Cambridge.

Olivia Bond (September 2021)

The MPhil in Geography provides a great opportunity for developing the skills needed for independent research. The course is centered on your own research project, allowing you to work on original ideas in good depth and produce a substantial thesis. While much of the work is independent, you have access to multiple training opportunities and all the benefits of being embedded in a supportive and enriching academic environment. The course was rewarding and really good preparation for future research. I was able to enhance my methodological, analytical and writing skills, as well as build networks with fellow researchers.
