Graduate Admissions

Teaching

The course is laboratory-based and undertaken exclusively by research. The project will be determined during the application process through discussion with the supervisor. The student should expect to receive support and advice from senior scientific colleagues and have regular meetings with their supervisor, during the course of their studies.

One to one supervision

The amount and frequency of supervision will be determined by both the project and the student.  However, students are likely to receive around six hours of supervision meetings per term.

Seminars & classes

Seminars are held regularly within the Unit and students are also encouraged to attend those at other departments in the University including the Lectures in Cancer Biology series.

Journal clubs

Journal Clubs are held periodically by Research Groups at the Unit.

Feedback

Students will receive regular feedback on their project to ensure that this is progressing at a pace appropriate for a one-year course. Feedback may be gained from a discussion of experimental data with scientific colleagues, and from supervisor's comments on their thesis and other presentations. Students will receive a formal online feedback report at the end of each term.

Assessment

Thesis

Examination for the MPhil degree involves the submission of a written thesis of not more than 20,000 words.  This is followed by an oral examination based on both the thesis and the wider field of knowledge.
