Apply using the Applicant Portal
The Apply Now button on the right will take you to the Applicant Portal. There, you can create and submit your application and supporting documents, and you can also request your references.
An application is only complete when:
- you have submitted your application and supporting documents via the Applicant Portal
- you have paid the application fee if applicable. For further information on application fees, and which courses require an application fee, see here.
- your referees have provided their references.
If you miss the deadlines specified in this section, you will not be able to submit your application.
PhD places at the MRC BSU are usually allocated in January and February.

Occasionally PhD projects and studentships are advertised at other times during the year, so applicants should refer to the Unit website for details of current opportunities and closing dates.
Selection Process
Our main recruitment takes place from September to January with an initial application deadline in early January followed by shortlisting and interviews in mid to late January. This is when our funding is usually allocated
However, applications will be considered as they are received and in exceptional circumstances, an earlier decision may be made.
Any unfilled places that remain after the end of February will then be reopened and applications at this stage are assessed as they are received. We aim to have all decisions made and places allocated by the end of April.
