Faculty of Classics (August 2022)

The Classics MPhil has given me the opportunity to combine previous interests from my undergraduate degree with new avenues I would never have thought of before; the vast range of seminars, reading groups, and research skills classes (such as a manuscript handling session in the University Library) has been so helpful in developing my academic interests and abilities. While I’ve loved the independence in setting entirely my own research programme, jumping across multiple disciplines and time periods, by far the best part of the course personally has been the large, supportive graduate community and working within a faculty that values interdisciplinarity and reception studies so much. It’s been a wonderful year, and I am fortunate to have received funding from King’s College and the Classics Faculty that has enabled me to complete the course without financial burden.

Katherine Wills (May 2022)

After my undergraduate studies in Iceland, I was thrilled to join the vibrant Faculty of Classics at Cambridge for the MPhil at Classics. This was facilitated with funding from the Philological Society and Jesus College. Members of the faculty and the graduate community have been extremely welcoming from the start, and they were e.g., all willing to provide assistance with applications for further graduate study. I found the MPhil itself to be a rigorous but flexible course, providing the perfect balance between independent research and graduate-level seminars.
