An application is only complete when:

  1. you have submitted your application and supporting documents via the Applicant Portal
  2. you have paid the application fee if applicable. For further information on application fees, and which courses require an application fee, see here.
  3. your referees have provided their references.

If you miss the deadlines specified in this section, you will not be able to submit your application.

You must attend an online mathematics and statistics pre-sessional starting on 2 September 2024 and complete it by 29 September 2024.  We shall assume that, by accepting this offer, you are also confirming that you will complete this course. You do not need to be on campus for the course.

Selection Process

Applications are considered in stages as part of a gathered field, and the earliest decisions on applications can be expected in January 2024, with the majority of decisions finalised after all received applications have been considered following the application deadline of 31 January 2024.

In order to apply for this course you'll need to think about getting a few things ready before you apply.

  • Research proposal (O)
    Applicants who have more than one year of work experience but want to continue to a PhD will be considered only if they include a 1,500-word research proposal at the time of application. The research proposal is intended to demonstrate an ability to pursue a research-oriented academic career. It should identify the key research questions, review the relevant academic literature in the area, and highlight the expected contribution to knowledge. Those with PhD aspirations who have less than one year of work experience should include a 500-word research proposal when they apply for the the MPhil in Finance. No research proposal is required from students who do not expect to continue to a PhD after the MPhil.

Gates Cambridge Scholarships

If you wish to be considered for a Gates Cambridge Scholarship you will also need to provide the following:

  • Gates Cambridge Reference  
  • Research Proposal (PhD applicants only)
